sanibel

We are looking for a nice place to stay on or
near the beach in Sanibel or Fort Myers area.

We normally prefer a condo or villa, and
economy is important.

Any suggestions?

Tween Waters Inn?? on Sanibel. The difference between staying on Sanibel and staying in Fort Meyer is very significant. Opt for Sanibel! You can make up the economical difference by eating breakfast and lunch in your condo on Sanibel and you'll save the toll fee over the bridge from Ft. Meyer. Have fun!

I love Pointe Estero. You get to be near enough to Ft. Meyers beach down at the end of the island but it is very quiet. The accomadations are wonderful. You have a large jacuzzi bathroom in the master with a large screen porch overlooking the ocean.

Sundial resort is nice although it is more like a hotel. But I think Pointe Estero is your best bet.

Economy was important to me, too. If you can stay a week (Saturday to Saturday) check out the rates at Blind Pass Condominiums. We're paying $707/week (would be $745 w/o AAA discount) for a 2 bedroom/2.5 bath townhouse condo later this month. Rates actually start lower than that for a 2BR/2bath. http://www.blind-pass.com/

If you want to check out many of the condo complexes (rates and photos) this is a good site (don't feel like you have to book through them, but the info is there for the looking):

Good luck and hope you have fun in Sanibel!

Try the Colony Resort....a small complex of modest condos and cottages on East Gulf Drive. They have a small swimming pool and are just steps from beach and walking distance to Lighhouse Cafe and good deli as well as Lighthouse beach. Not fancy, but great value and nice people. http://www.usa-chamber.com/sanibel-c.../accom/colony/

Once you are on island, use East Gulf, Middle Gulf and Tarpon Bay Roads and other side roads instead of Periwinkle when things get too busy traffic-wise.

Hope you get to stay on island. Many great restaurants too. For economy and family fun try the Hunry Heron. For upscale and lovely, the restaurant at Sundial, Windows on the Water, and also the Twilight Cafe are wonderful, but pricy!
