What's that Sea Turtle Inn place? It's on the bay side but at a good location, it sounds wonderful. Where's our Siesta Key person when we need him. You might want to post again with Siesta Key in the title, or search this site for Siesta Key. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I hope while you're vacationing that you'll get to see each of the barrier islands. Another good spot to try would be Mote Marine Aquarium - they do fantastic research and have an outstanding aquarium. If you find an inkling to see some alligators - head over to Myakka State Park.

I also hope you realize that it was be very HOT AND HUMID there in late July. Many Floridians take vacations north during that time period.

I'm headin to siesta key in november and will be checking out some of the hotels listed.

Whats the night life like there? trying to find a hotel close enough to the night life but still off the beaten path (if possible)

any restaurant reccomentdations. Both fine and casual would be great.

Me again; I am having trouble finding accomodations for July at the places recommended here and that look good on the web. I have come up with an idea that might work or is just plain nuts! I think we will fly into Tampa, rent a car about noon and check out the Anna Maria / Longboat / Siesta Key area. We can spend the night in the Sarasota area, get up the next morning and drive to Ft Myers to look at the Sanibel / Captive area. We can get an 8:00 pm flight out of Ft Myers to Key West where we will spend the rest of our vacation. We get the "known" accomodations and famaliarity (sp?)with Key West and also get to check out the Gulf Keys for future travel. I was supprised to find flights that work into this plan well. Flight #1 gets into Tampa approx noon, Flight #2 leaves Ft Myers at 8:00 pm the next day. That gives us 20 hrs including driving time to check out the gulf keys prior to leaving for Key West. Is that enough time? Also will the Inns, Hotels, etc. let you look at their properties for future reference? I know I frowned on driving on my inital thread, but if I don't get out and look at some other places, I just might go to Key West every year.

It will be difficult to see very much but I'm sure you can give it a good shot. We usually fly into Tampa and then drive down to longboat Key.

If you are looking for places that might just spoil you then perhaps you might check the Inn on the Beach, and the Wicker Inn on Longboat Key and perhaps The Colony Resort. They're all lovely places - I don't stay at any as we own a home on LBK and that's how I know how lovely it is. The sand has an ionite (sp??) base to it which gives it the lovely, white talcum powder that is not hot to the feet in summer. They claim that this can only be found on Siesta and Longboat beaches.

I'm sure any of the properties will allow you to view the units for future use.
