I've stayed at the San Remo several times. It is nothing remarkable, but it's not a dump and it is has a great location at the top of the strip, right across from the MGM Grand. Personally, I like it because it is not so HUGE and it tends to be a decent value. There is an outdoor pool area in the back and a decent breakfast buffet.

I would also recommend the San Remo. We stayed there last August and it was great. We stayed at the Pink Flamingo the night before and given a choice, I would pick San Remo any day. The others are like a maze. They want you to stay and not venture to other places.and it is really inconvenient. I asked for a room with a view at Remo and it was fabulous! Right across from NY/Ny, MGM, Luxor and several others. Our view was like a post card. It isn't a mega hotel and we really liked that. Pool was great and you didn't have to walk a mile through a maze to get to your room. No one would give me a recommendation for the Remo when I was planning my trip and I was afraid but we liked it so much better than the Flamingo. Go for it! Just be aware that when you start walking, things are much farther away than they look! That goes for any thing in Vegas.

For what it's worth, many airline crews stay there.

THe San Remo is behind the Tropicana's parking garage which is behind the Tropicana..it is a good city block off the strip. Stay there is you are looking at price and don't mind walking..and walking..and walking...and walking...you may get tired of walking..and walking..and walking...just something to think about.

I have stayed there on 3 occasions and it's nice. An American Airline pilot recommended it about 4 years ago & it was great. Nice room (nothing super fancy. The view was the BEST I've had in Vegas. Did not care for the casino -- small, old & smokey. But it's a good value.
