Head off to the Gold Country. All along hwy 49 are small interesting little town, antiques, wineries etc. Our favorite town is Murphys but for no particularly strong reason. You can then drive straight into Yosemite. And 152 through the Pacheco Pass is not at all dangerous IMHO. We drive it whenever we need to get to the 5 to go to southern CA in a hurry.

You're jumping on backs again Barb.
Take your own advice and let Sheila and other readers decide where she wants to go without waving San Jose around and then forcefully ramming it down her throat.
The most important thing is to provide a variety of different opinions to the forum participant so he/she can use the opinions to pick what he/she wants to do. The focus is NOT, Barb, to force other people (i.e. me) to submit or agree with your same life outlook or opinion.

Ann, It appears that you are the one who is trying to force your opinion on others on this board. I agree with you that we should let Shelia make up her own mind. By the way Ann, you mentioned several times that there are "some interesting things to do around the area" in San Jose, I am curious to know what they are? They may be of innterest to Shelia.

Things to do in San Jose:

I've been to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum & Childrens Discovery Museum on school field trips.
Not that San Jose doesn't have things to see or do, I think you're time would better be spent in Santa Cruz or Monterey. Or even go to Yosemite early.

The Rosicrucian Museum is really fascinating to see. It has the largest collection of Eqyptian artifacts on the West Coast. The Childrens Discovery Museum is great for the little tikes. You have lots of things available in San Jose to easily fill a couple of days.
Santa Cruz is also nice, but for the most part it's a college town. I actually prefer Monterey over Santa Cruz, but if you just have a day or two, it would not justify driving all the way to Monterey, as the traffic on a weekend day heading toward Monterey can be quite bad.
