San Francisco to San Diego in 6 days

We( a small Family of 3) want to start from San francisco on the 10th of June. We have hired a car( Camaro Convertible) and will leave on the 10th morning. We plan to get into san Diego on the 15th by 12 noon. What are the night stops we can make which are inexpensive and fun. We could spend 2 nights in a place that has lots to see!! Please suggest a really cool itinerary for your third world cousins!!

I'd probably stay 2 nights in or near Carmel June 10-11. Not only is there a lot to see, there will likely be a 2 night minimum on the weekend.

Somewhere south of Big Sur June 12 - Pismo Beach, Cambria etc.

Santa Barbara June 13.

Somewhere on the ocean either in LA or Orange County the 14th. Maybe someplace like Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, Laguna Beach or Dana Point.

Don't expect hot, top-down weather every day. June can be cool and foggy on the coast though it can clear up in the afternoons.

What do you consider inexpensive? Monterey (particularly along Munras Ave and Abrego St) and Pacific Grove are near Carmel and tend to have less expensive accommodations.

You could skip the overnight in Santa Barbara if you want 2 nights in LA/Orange County.

You need to provide your lodging budget per night in USD not adjectives.

Agree with the previous suggestions which are great. 2 nights Monterey/Carmel. Drive down through Big Sur to Cambria, Pismo Beach or San Luis Obispo for 1 night. I love the Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Dana Point area though a bit of a drive from the Central Coast. 1 or 2 nights there would be nice.
