>>SF has so many gorgeous Victorians...Alamo square is nice but they are all over that area<<

Just to make sure nobody thinks they're going to step out of their hotel at the Wharf or downtown & see Victorians, virtually all of the Victorians east of Van Ness were destroyed by the fire or blown-up with dynamite during the '06 quake. There are 2 or so that the fire missed on Russian Hill, and some were moved back into the fire area from west of Van Ness many years after the quake & fire.

Therefore, there are no Victorians Downtown, at the Wharf, North Beach, Tenderloin, Nob Hill, Civic center, Chinatown, SOMA, or Russian Hill (except for the 2-3 mentioned). The Marina was under water at the Victorian time, and there are very few (if any) in the Richmond or Sunset districts - except for the cemetary workers homes on Mc Allister. Most of the Richmond & Sunset were sand dunes at the time. Nothing in the Twin Peaks area, Forrest Hill, St Francis Woods either.

You say you're in decent shape so this may be one way to see some of the prettier sights in SF in anywhere from 3 to 6 hrs and help out a good cause!

Hi Carol,
The bus isn't too mysterious. We went to San Francisco for the first time, a couple of years ago, and had no problems with the bus. Here's a website that helps a lot:

www.hopstop.com

Why not take the #39 MUNI bus to Coit Tower, which leaves from Washington Square?

Have a wonderful trip! We're going back in June for a few days -- just before you're there.

Thanks everyone... I'm gonna give the buses a shot. If it's as easy as you all say, sounds perfect. Lots of great tips, thank you. Now if I could just get the next 5 weeks to move more quickly...
