San Francisco hotel Intercontinental

I was considering staying here for a 3 night stay in December. Anyone stayed there before, or could you recommend somewhere else to stay?

More people will know this hotel as the Mark Hopkins Intercontinental. "The Mark" is famous and its bar, Top of the Mark, is world-renowned. Nice hotel!

The Mark is fab. Stayed there for a weekend in January and was really impressed with the hotel. We had a drink at the top of the mark with a great view of the city. After 9:00 pm there is a $10 per person charge for music even if you've been there before the music starts. Across the street is the Fairmont. A drink in the Tonga Room is a fun too.

Just remember this hotel is on Nob Hill - hear that, a hill with a capital H! If you walk down, you'll have to walk back up (or wait for the California St. cable car). That aside, the Mark Hopkins is a San Francisco classic, the aforementioned elevation in terrain gives great views, and you'll be close to downtown, Chinatown, North Beach and the Financial District. If you can get a good price, go for it.

I agree with what the previous posters said: A truly grand place - and just the right feeling of a San Francisco classic about it. Unquestionably classy.
