My wife and I are planning a trip to San Francisco in July and are considering the lodging in the financial district. We will be there mainly over a four day week-end. We would like to visit the main attractions (i.e. Chinatown, the Wharf, Alcatraz, shopping, theatre district etc.) and are looking for a QUIET nice hotel (NO children). We are considering either the Hyatt Regency San Francisco or the Park Hyatt. We thought staying in that area would be quiet and yet we would have access to the city through cable cars, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Park Hyatt is much nicer....and very quiet on weekends. Close enough to walk to Union Sq etc, though it takes a few minutes.

We stayed at the Park Hyatt last week. The hotel was nice, especially for the priceline.com price we paid. It is within walking distance to many of the attractions. We walked to the Wharf and took a cable car back which worked out great. Not only did I not see any children, I saw very few other guests. We never waited more than a few seconds for an elevator which was great. There is construction going on across the street from the Park Hyatt, so if you want quiet, be sure to ask for a room on the opposite side and as high as possible. They were working on the Sat. we were there.

I sometimes hang out over at www.biddingfortravel.com (a site that teaches you how to bid on Priceline) and have seen that a lot of people are getting the Park Hyatt for $40 and $45/night on PL. It's a beautiful hotel, so check out BFT. If you don't get the Park Hyatt, most of the similar hotels in the area would be fine too.

Betsy, Thanks for the information on biddingfortravel.com. This site is a wealth of information about Priceline. If we decide to bit on P/L I hope we get the Park Hyatt. Sounds like a nice place.

Another idea to add to the mix - the Kimpton Group has upscale boutique hotels. This is what San Francisco is known for. Stay at the Donatello, Prescott, Hotel Monaco (and get a pet gold fish for the night),

If you are thinking about lodging in the financial district, you should really consider the Mandarin Oriental. A superb hotel that is very quiet, has great rooms, and has one of SF's finest restaurants (Silks).

Tony, I agree the Mandarin is tops in the SF financial district. Pricey, but fabulous.

Another vote for the Park Hyatt. Got it for $75/night (P-line)a few weekends ago and once I figger'd out where the front door was, no problemo!

First class operation. Very quiet weekend location whereas the Hyatt Reg is still amongst the hustle/bustle IMHO.

I have to go down 5-30 for business and will be trying to stay there again since we had such a great stay last time.
