Casual can go almost anywhere if you mean a nice pair of slacks and blouse. You'll see tourists in most anything, but the natives tend to dress a bit more "city style" than other places. It has been extremely hot, but cooled off last night so we are back to the don't forget a sweater or blazer for evenings. And, dark colors are still the norm. If you're staying in the city, I wouldn't pack shorts.

Wear tie-dye or an African print dress or a sari. Birkenstocks are a must. Seriously though, don't worry about dress at all in SF.

It's been warm the last week or so, about 70, so bring a jacket because it'll probably be the usual-cool memorial weekend that it always is!

Layered clothing ought to do the trick.

In NYC people will notice and you'll feel out of place without proper attire.
In California, in general, almost anything goes except in nicer restaurants and evening events.

Don't forget that it is MUCH colder here than most people expect. Right now it is 56 degrees outside (9:52 PM) and the fog is blowing in at a good clip.

Note, however, that in the suburbs (inland), it is still in the high 70s at this hour and I believe they hit 90 during the day... our high was about 65.

Sharon, It's pretty cold down here in Palo Alto at 10:45. Certainly jacket/sweater weather. Hard to advise tourists because they just don't understand the microclimates around the Bay.

If you want to look chic, try some black or grey ... I think in SF you can be a bit formal if you like. But to believe that dress isn't important in that style city, well, lets put it this way ... leave the dyed stuff, plaids, non-organic garb and sandles at home, or even better, save them for WDW and the Rat. You'll have a better time if you look better. Welcome to the Bay area. Ciao.
