San Francisco Dining
I just read the post by DebitNM re the Dine About Town event and the many comments. I'm very anxious to read her trip report as she is a trustworthy critic and has been so helpful to me when we have stayed in Santa Fe.
For now though, my husband and I are going to San Francisco in Feb. We are eager to try Gary Danko, knowing that he is a wonderful chef, but I don't see any reference to his restaurant in the posts. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
We love Italian and know that there is no lack of restaurants there, but I would appreciate your very favorites....anything from "mom and pop" on up the line. We just truly enjoy authentic Italian!!
Thanks for your help...

Gary Danko is not mentioned because the post was about restaurants that had prix fix menus for DAT--this is not something that Gary Danko's would participate in. Gary Danko's is one of the best restaurants in SF and as Stu has posted it is probably too late to get a reservation for February.

Stu, you were correct about "prime" dinner hour reservations. I was able to snag a 9:30 on the 15th. I feel blessed to have gotten it, and we are anxious to go.
I still could use some help regarding a terrific Italian restaurant. Your favorites, any one????

- Perbacco
- Incanto - check out the menu first - it has many "non-traditional" things like shaved tuna heart, lamb neck
- Delfina
- Quince French/Italian
read reviews of these on www.sfgate.com

Stu - You're a peach! Thanks for the website which I will definitely be utilizing.
Incanto was on our "maybe" list. We've seen Chris Cosentino several times on the Food Network. He definitely doesn't let a single thing go to waste.
I'm going to check out your other suggestions. Thank you so much!

We absolutely love SPQR!! It is Italian but very special. You should get a variety of dishes and share everything (which is encouraged by staff). The restaurant does not take reservations; go early. It is well-known and popular. Fun and casual atmosphere. My husband was dubious at first because the dishes listed on the menu were not familiar to him, but he was quickly wowed by every tasty morsel.

Tony's Napolitana Pizzeria in North Beach, my new go to place. Tony was the first person in sf and maybe the usa to get the certificate for pizza making in Naples.
He has 4 pizza ovens and makes four diffferent kinds. His fried green beens are to die for. They also have your basic Italian dishes, everything is wonderful.
