We will be in San Francisco 4 full days over Easter with our 4 grandchildren. I'm trying to decide if the city pass is a value, but I don't know what Muni and cable car cost is per ride. We will use the cruise, Exploratorium, and California Academy of Sciences portion of the pass. I would like advice and the cost of the cable car, et. Thanks, Owa

We are going the same week! I just purchased city passes today. I called Blue and Gold fleet. The Alcatraz tour is included in the city pass fee. You can make your reservation now. I hear they sell out on the Alcatraz so I booked mine. I can't help you on how much each ride on the cable cars cost. My brother in law said that he had trouble trying to buy tickets while there so they skipped the cable cars. I think the kids would love to travel around the city on the cable cars so I purchased them.

Why MUNI per ride? Check the website, MUNI and visitors bureau, don't remember which one sells what, but the passes range from 1 day (+3 days, so you get 4) up to 15 days, unlimited MUNI and cable car rides. Look into it.

Cruise? Why? You don't go to Alcatraz? I can understand that, but why not to go to Sausalito? You can take ferry round-trip and not to worry about using all parts of the city pass.

Maybe you just didn't know you can buy a pass for transport only without museums? It's not that I don't recommend museums, take children to Exploratorium, Academy, Legion of Honor, Yerba Buena.

Now if you want to know the cost: MUNI buses, metro $1.25 adult, $.35 child and seniour, valid of 3 rides any direction within 1,5 hours.

Cable car I don't know, maybe $2 or $3 one ride.

Owa - sounds like it would be a good deal if you plan on actually going to Alcatraz. Note the restrictions for that versus the standard Bay Cruise:

"Note: The Blue & Gold Fleet Bay Cruise is part of the San Francisco CityPass. If you would like to substitute the Blue & Gold Fleet's Alacatraz Tour for the San Francisco Bay Cruise (subject to availability) you must purchase your CityPass in advance directly through the Blue & Gold Fleet only. Their phone number is (415)705-5555. There is a $2.25 convenience fee for this service."

We're going a month before you and in my research over the internet. If you're likely to get the MUNI ticket pass anyway it's worth getting the CityPass and even using the Bay cruise and 1 other entrance makes up the difference in the CityPass and the MUNI Passport for 7 days. Also it's unlimited cable car rides so if the kids like it you can go as many times as they want

I wonder why the CityPass have the weekly MUNI pass listed as $20 if on the MUNI website the same pass with the same unlimited rides on all MUNI lines is $12. Anybody knows?

By the way, Owa, when are you coming? Some museums, like Exploratorium, have first Tuesday or Wendnesday free. And so is the Zoo.

Thank you, thank you everyone for your help. We are going 24-29 March so guess free Exploratorium entrance is out. Has any one done the tacticle dome in the exploratorium? I know I have to pass extra, but I would do that if they would enjoy it and not be afraid. They are ages 10-16, It looks from what I 've read I may as well buy a city pass. Owa

Weekly pass: Good for one week, from Monday through Sunday. Valid for unlimited use on all Muni lines. Cost is $12 for each week. There are no senior, disabled, or youth weekly passes. You must pay an additional $1 to ride the cable cars.
