>>last year, end of September was extremely hot, more so than other years, it hit 90 ish for at least a day or 2.>It was so hot on the day of my son's freshman orientation, I had to get out of the sun before I fainted.possible, but most likely, and what a visitor should plan for, is typical SF Sept weather, which is heaven on Earth.

And remember that even if it is foggy and cool in the morning, the fog will burn off by noon and it will be lovely, high 70 or low 80s, and then about 4 or 5 the fog will start blowing back in on some days. So you have to carry layers around with you.
And the closer you are to the Pacific, the foggier it will be.

Layers is it, it may be overcast in the morning, and sunny hot by afternoon in the end of September. The morning will not necessarily be an indicator of how the afternoon will be, may change completely, so definitely keep that in mind.

Just as an example of what the weather is like in California in the summer, we were recently in Valencia. When I dropped off my family at Magic Mountain at 10:30 a.m., it was 60 degrees and drizzling. By the time I picked them up at 4 p.m., it was 92 degrees and totally sunny. Pretty typical summer weather pattern.
