San Francisco

My husband and I are planning a trip to SFO next April. We are thinking of staying 3 nights in the city and then head up to Napa for 4 nights. We also would like to do Muir woods and Sausalito, where should we plan this, on our way up to Napa or do it from the city when we stay there. I just want to make sure we have enough time in the city. Please help, thanks anyone.

I would visit Muir Woods on the way to the wine country. For Sausalito, consider taking a ferry there and back. It's essential get a look at the City from the water, as well as land.

Are you dead set on Napa or have you considered Sonoma County. I highly recommend Healdsburg as a better option. The wineries are less commercial, less crowded, mostly free to taste and tour. There are far more than you could ever visit in your 3 or 4 days. www.wineroad.com

I completely agree with Catbert. Napa is popular with tourists, but locals have a tendency to migrate to Sonoma or Mendocino (my favorite) for wine weekends away. Napa is full of traffic jams.

Have fun out here!

I agree - ferry to Sausalito so you get a view of SF from the water at the same time and see Muir Woods on the way to the wine country. This way you have more time in SF and don't have to worry about a car while you are there, just pick one up on your way out of SF.
