San Fran Hotel w/ Service & Style?

Can anyone comment on the following hotels?
Do you know anything about the service? How's the location for walking to restaurants, shops, museums? We're looking to treat ourselves to a nice place. Thanks for any suggestions!
Galleria Park, 191 Sutter
Argent Hotel, 50 Third Street
Hotel Nikko, 222 Mason
Hotel Rex, 562 Sutter
Maxwell Hotel, 386 Geary
W Hotel
Metropolis Hotel, 25 Mason

well commenting on all those would require several hundred words....
maybe you could help us out by telling us what you want from a hotel (price limitations, location, amenities you'd like, what you like about hotels which you favor, etc) and then we could tell you which one fits best.

From your message title, I'm tempted to recommend the W. Very stylish (not my style, since I prefer traditional to 'hip', but loved by many of the younger set). Stayed there recently and found it very well run, great convention location, bad room service food, unusually comfortable beds, excellent electronics including TV internet access. Not the cheapest place on your list.

I've stayed at the W a few times and really like it a lot - the staff is just wonderful. As far as Hotel Nikko - a friend just stayed there and said that their staff was very welcoming as well, but the hotel was more "convention like." I'm sorry I can't help out with the others. The W is located near Moscone and the Yuerba Buena gardens as well as the SF Contemporary Art Museum; Hotel Nikko is more centrally located. You can also use other websites that provide specific informaton about the hotel themselves. Also, just about anywhere in SF you can walk to or use the public transportation.

Stayed at the Hotel Monaco in June for a few days. Worth adding to your list. We had no complaints at all and would definitely stay there again.

Stayed at both the W and the Hotel Rex. Both were EXCELLENT and I would highly recommend them.

The Rex is very cozy. The room sizes are normal but the design it was makes them special. The hotel has a literary theme, with quotes from famous authors painted on the walls. They each have a little sofa seating area. The beds are very comfortable, and have goose down pillows. The downstairs lobby area is small but intimate. The location is VERY central.

The W is much more on the hip side. The rooms were awesome, with down comforter and down pillows. They also had CD Player, two phones (one cordless) great bathroom, and just some generally nice touches. Our room had a really cool window seat with a great view of SF. The hotel is next door to the Museum of Modern Art, closer to the SOMA district, but yet very close to plenty of things.

If you choose either of these, you won't go wrong.
