san diego transport

We are visiting San Diego in May 2 adults & 2 kids from Australia. Wondering if our best bet is to hire a car or rely on public transport. We are there for 4 days then going to Aneheim. If we hired a car would we be able to drive to Aneheim and drop it off there as this would probably be cheaper than transfers.

I took the Amtrak train from San Diego to Anaheim to take my son to Disneyland. If you click on my name you can probably find my trip report.

San Diego is easier with a car, but you can see a lot without one. Without a car, you should stay downtown close to a trolley stop. You can also take a water taxi over to Coronado island.

If you rent a car, you should have no problem droping it off in Anaheim.

I think the transit is bad in S.D You had better rent a car or getting around will not be easy. Just my 2 cents worth. Then drive to Aneheim.

just checking my calander, we would be driving to Anaheim on 27 May which is the Saturday of your Memorial Day weekend. Would this make it a little chaotic?

The I-5 drive from SD to Anaheim won't be too bad, if you leave early-- at least until you're in the vicinity of Anaheim itself. Disneyland should be quite busy Memorial Day weekend, so the exits off the 5 will be quite busy as well. Bring your patience with you.

Probably not too bad going north, which you will be. Disneyland will be absolutely packed that whole weekend, though. You will find it easier to get to the places you want to see in San Diego with a car.
