San Diego - Seaport Village Restaurants

Hi, There are several restaurants on the Seaport Village web site that look good. They are: Busters Beach House; Edgewater Grill; Harbor House; San Diego Pier Cafe. I couldn't find a Fodors or Frommers review on any of these. Can anyone recommend one in particular? They all look like fun and appear to be on the water. I would appreciate any help. We arrive on Saturday and will be very hungry upon landing. Since we are staying at the Embassy Suites, these would be close to our hotel and we could grab a bite after checking in before we hit the streets. Thanks, Leah

Leah: A friend of mine (and her teenage son) ate at Buster's a few months ago and liked it. I haven't eaten at the Harbor House for years, but it used to be quite good. As it's still doing business, I would guess that is still is pretty good. Welcome to San Diego!

Barbara, You have been so helpful with my posts and I truly appreciate it! We only travel once a year, so I do my best to research and make every moment (and meal) special. I gather that you live in San Diego or the general vicinity. I am REALLY looking forward to this trip. I have dreamed of coming to San Diego for many years now. We can't wait!!!! Thanks again, Leah

Leah, you will love San Diego, we try to come every other year! We would live there but I think we would be bankrupt after a couple years. If you haven't made plans to do the zoo, by all means go. I am not necessarily a "zoo" person but it was so fabulous I would go back in a minute! Have a great time! Check out (if you haven't already) www.sandiego.com or www.gaslamp.com

GatorGirl: I hope you already have your tickets to the game(s)! Those will be Tony Gwinn's last home games and I know for sure that Sunday, Sept 23 is sold out. I'm sure Saturday will be soon, if not already. Tony announced his retirement about two days after I paid for a trip to see the San Diego Chargers play the Cowboys in Dallas - on Sept.23(I had promised my son, a Dallas fan, that we'd go sometime)!
As for restaurants downtown - I like Dobson's and the Bayou Bar and Grill. Blue Crab Coastal Cuisine is very good and so are lots of the others, ijust don't go down there much now. Go to The Bitter End for a drink - good people watching.

GatorGirl: I shouldn't try to do more than one thing at a time when I'm typing! Tony's last name is, of course, spelled Gwynn!!

Pier Cafe is a decent lunch time place with above average food. The location is great, on pier stilts over the water. It can get breezy and cold there regardless of the month. The price range for lunch is $8-20.

I wouldn't go for dinner, but for lunch it is great!

Harbor House is way over priced and I don't know the others first hand.

Barbara & Joe thanks for the recommendations. Barbara, yes we got tickets to all three games that is the reason we are coming! My husband saw Tony Gwynn play during his first season so of course we had to come to final home games. He is so excited! Leah, sorry about butting in on your message!

GatorGirl, you didn't! That's what makes this forum so much fun. Lots of ideas all popping around. We are going to take in a Padres game as well, a Sunday afternoon game! I love those..... My husband and son love to check out all the ballparks wherever we go. Did you by any chance see the show on the Food Network about all the ballpark food? I think I am going to try one of the Fish Tacos......My husband and son are going for one of the 1 pound hot dogs. They want to compare it to the Chicago dogs they love so much from Wrigley and Comiskey.

To All others... Thanks so much for all your tips. I truly appreciate it, and will welcome any more that anyone wants to give. Leah

Leah we ought to take vacations together! Anytime we go anywhere near a major league city we have to go to a ballgame. We had a friend who actually took a package deal that took you around the country to all the major league stadiums, "she" loved it! Fish tacos are interesting and we did see that FoodTV special, really really neat. Our favorite place other than SD is Baltimore. We loved Camden Yards!

Hi Leah- we have been to San Diego 2 times in the last few years and really love it. Both times we brought our children so our dining experiences had to be kid friendly. We stayed in the same area you are in on the water and loved the convenience of being able to walk to restaurants and shops. We went to Busters for breakfast which was very good and we all really enjoyed it- it was our last day or we would have gone for dinner a few times. It was a fun menu and the wait staff were very good. Our other favorite place was Sammy's (also within walking distance but closer to Gas Light district)for brick oven pizza and pasta. Have fun!

Thanks Cathy, I appreciate the input. We will have to try Busters. We too are planning on Sammy's. It looks like something we would enjoy. We are the "casual" type of diners. GatorGirl, sounds like we are alot alike. I hope your trip is as enjoyable as I know mine will be. Thanks again to all....... Leah

Since it seems we have gotten a little off the original question, may I suggest dinner at Redfish in the Gaslamp, with appetizers and drinks beforehand at The Grape and after-drinks at Tupelo. DEFINATELY see Triple Espresso at the Horton Grand Theatre if you get a chance because it is about the funniest thing you'll ever see.
