San Diego or Miami

I'm planning a trip to either Miami or San Diego or Miami this summer.I'm not sure which one to go to. I like big skylines and nice hotels. I also want a nice warm sunny climate even though I know both of them have it.Which one should I go to.

Summers in Miami are not only hot, but VERY humid. San Diego would be more comfortable, although also more crowded. Miami has more nightlife, but San Diego has more cultural activities.

Overall, I'd pick San Diego.

Paul, we were in Florida last month and spent a day in Miami - not impressed. We really liked Fort Lauderdale, though. Beautiful beaches and not overly touristy. Actually, its kind of cosmopolitain, which was a surprise. Plenty to do or not do.
However...I would DEFINITELY go to San Diego. I can't tell you how I much I love that city. We relied heavily on this web site and were never disappointed. Wally knows his stuff:

Here's another vote for San Diego. You should realize, though, that it isn't always toasty warm in San Diego during the summer. We were there a few years ago in June (no, we'd never heard of "June gloom" before we went)and I had to buy a sweatshirt just to wear to the zoo because it was so cold. If I'd had a coat with me, I'd have worn it the whole time we were there.

The previous poster is correct -- you can never tell about June in San Diego. But you can bank on the fact that we'll get beautifully warm, dry and sunny by the 4th of July and stay that way right into October.

I would take my chances with the June gloom in San Diego over the heat and humidity of Miami. You really can't swim in San Diego except in the very height of summer, but there's many wonderful things to do on the coast. If you want a bit more heat, you can go inland or even as far as Palm Springs via the Palms to Pines road. It takes about 2 1/2 hours and is an interesting route that not many people take. In Palm Springs, go to Joshua Tree Park to get a taste of the Southern California desert. San Diego certainly has nice hotels and while not a big skyline, a very pretty one.

No doubt 'bout it...San Diego!!! In fact we are going there next week for a 5 day vacation. The only time we go to the Miami area these days is to take a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale.

Both areas have MUCH in the way of enjoyment, but give me SD over Miami any day..
