San Diego in early June
We're planning a vacation to San Diego the first week in June. What can we expect for the weather? Will it be too cold to hit the beaches? Do you recommend either the Ocean Park Inn or the Holiday Inn Mission Bay? We'll have a 5 and 8 year old with us and we'd like to stay under 150 a night.

june is often referred to as "june gloom". often has a very thick marine layer that sticks around most of the day. however, considering how the weather has been so crazy in the last year or two, i wouldn't predict anything these days. for most adults, the water will be too cold but kids don't seem to mind as much
haven't stayed at either hotel but for location, i'd go with the ocean park inn. (7 blocks to the beach) the other one is on a very busy street.
i'd recommend going to lego land up in carlsbad and sea world (if you've never been to such a show - expensive but worth it). the zoo is nice but it is a lot of walking which can get tiring for the younger kids.
take to la jolla when the tide is out and you can explore tide pools. also to the children's pool on the ocean in la jolla. lots of sea lions hang out there.
don't get yourself booked up too much. most of the time the kids just enjoy hanging around the beach.

Our family stayed at the Ocean Park Inn in March. Located at the foot of Grand Ave right on the beach, it is an excellent location in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego. Within walking distance there are a number of restaurants, a grocery store and a drug store, as well as Starbucks. It is about a 5 - 7 minute drive to Seaworld. There is free gated underground parking as well.
While the hotel is older. it has recently been renovated and the rooms are large with 2 queen beds, and a fridge and microwave in every room. Continental breakfast is included, and your kids will love eating right beside the huge saltwater fish tank. The pool, though small, was wonderfully warm, and is only 4 feet deep so the kids can play to their hearts content and you can enjoy the hot tub. My kids (8 and 10)
just loved being right on the ocean. Every evening after dinner we would go for a walk on the boardwalk. Never did we feel unsafe.
We loved it there and while it is not a deluxe hotel there is nothing wrong with it and the location it tops.
