San Diego Family Reunion

We are considering a family reunion at the beach next summer. We have 14 family members and will consider anything from Oceanside south to San Diego. We're looking for condos/houses on the beach, or within walking distance to the beach. A pool would be nice too! Does anyone have any suggestions for our group? We will rent multiple units to accomodate our group.
Thanks!

Hi..
I would stay in the Mission Beach area either bayside or beach side and who really is one of the top rental companies is Penny Realty in MB..
Book soon since the same families usually rent a year in advance as well as the Zonies from AZ..
Have a blast!
Do not go to Oceanside!

try www.barbaramclain.com
they are a property management company based in Carlsbad. (I use them to rent my property during the winter, but it is booked by friends and relatives in summer)

Oh, I'm with Tahiti Tams. I have been at 3 family reunions in O'side. Yes, Carlsbad or south (San Diego the best), would be much better.

We go to San Diego every year and rent a place in Solana Beach (North of Del Mar). You can find tons of rentals at http://www.vacationbeachhomes.com/ (Dave Stubbs Realty).

Family reunion in Oceanside? Did your family just arrive over the border? If not, I suggest you choose another town.

TTess, you're really not describing Oceanside very well. It isn't the best place for a family reunion, but more because it's so far from the main San Diego sites. Your comment re crossing the border is in poor taste, and a bit insulting to the OP. If you actually knew more about San Diego County, you'd also know it's not very accurate.

Actually we just had a family reunion in Oceanside last June. WHY? Because that is where my SIL lives and that is where the family gathered.

We stayed in Carlsbad, very nice beach town just south and were very impressed with the area. There are some very pretty parts of Oceanside and Carlsbad. And some great places to eat, shop, golf and do all the other things that one wants to do in San Diego. It is a bit of a drive to other things in SD.

I would recommend a beach house, maybe two for the group. Mission Beach is where the action is if you have teens. Once you rent the house (which is generally for a week, from Sat to Sat), you can pretty much just stay there and play. Most of my friends that do this never leave the beach, once they have furnished it with groceries and beach toys.

Another option is maybe a nice resort like the Hilton (it is on the bay, not very cool with the teens) or Paradise Point. If you have teens, maybe the Catamaran (around 350 for a standard room, which I believe has a kitchettea), or Blue Sea Lodge in Mission Beach. And then there is Coronado, another great option. July and Aug are the most expensive times and those rooms on the weekends can be $350 and more, easily.

How many families, what ages for kids, what kind of $$ are you thinking, that will determine your options. Do you want to sight see and be on the go all the time? Or just hang out with the family. Having an idea about these things will help you determine what will fit your family the best.

Hope this helps.

If your reunion is planned during racing season (middle of July to middle of September) rental prices in Del Mar and Solana Beach skyrocket. Monica Richards suggestion for the Dave Stubbs Realty site is good. My mom got a condo in Solana Beach through them. If you look in Solana Beach, make sure you find out where the nearest beach access is. The condos are on a bluff and stairs to the beach are few.
