san diego

I am going to be staying in San Diego near the convention center for a week. Are there any good restaurants in the area? I won't have a car handy. Has anyone ever taken the trolly tours in San Diego? Are they worthwhile?

The trolley tours are a great way of seeing a lot of San Diego in one day. You can hop on and off at the sights that appeal to you.

The Gaslamp District has an abundance of restaurants to choose from. I'd alos suggest taking the ferry over to Coronado Island one night for dinner to get a different feel.

We stayed in this area and took the trolly to old town though I do rememeber making a transfer at the main station. We didn't have a car and either walked or used the trolly. It was great fun. There is a trolly stop very nearby you.

We ate in the Gaslamp district where there are many yummy restaurants. If it's nice weather choose one with outdoor seating, people watching was great!

Just returned from a convention there. Hopefully, you were not attending the same one because my information will be too late. The Gaslamp District has a lot of good food Candelas (nouveau Mexican, romantic - I had lobster tail in a shell stuffed with mushrooms and jalapeno peppers), Royale Brasserie and Bar (French and seafood), and Trattoria Mare & Monti (Italian) were all very good. There are lots and lots of other choices too. Great people watching, so definitely sit outside when you have a choice.

There are many excellent restaurants in the Gaslamp area depending on price and choice of food. Some favorites are Panevino for italian, Sammy's Pizza for pizza and such, Panda Inn for Chinese, Athens Market for Greek, Dakotas for American stuff.
