San Antonio Hotels--can't decide??

I am trying to decide on which hotel to pick for San Antonio. I got a really good rate at the Sheraton 4 Points, but is it close enough to be near the action of the Riverwalk? We don't mind walking a little ways but don't want to have to take a cab every time.
The Holiday Inn is quite a bit more and I am not sure if it is worth it. Has anyone seen the Sheraton??? Thanks

MENGER -- stay at the Menger. It is just across the road from the Riverwalk (not even 5 minutes) and it is wonderful

Agree with previous poster. Have stayed at Hyatt, Crockett, Marriot, and Menger. Menger is the best for the money---lovely rooms, close to river, great bar.

We have stayed twice at the Hampton Inn which is behind the Alamo and a short walk from the Rivercenter Mall. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the Riverwalk from the Hampton. They have a complementary continental breakfast and the rooms are clean and fairly new. It may not have a lot of "historic atmosphere" but for the price it's a good deal.

For my budget I recommend the Hampton Inn downtown. Easy walk to everything, Alamo, riverwalk etc. Free breakfast, free parking. Clean, new, what more could you want? Mind if you are rich there are other options, Menger etc.

You didn't mention the amount of money you wanted to spend, so I'll just tell you my favorites. I like modern, comfortable hotels with a location on the River Walk. My two favorites are the Hilton Palacio Del Rio, and the River Center (not River Walk) Marriot. At the Hilton you get a balcony, but its a slightly smaller hotel than the Marriot. The Marriot is locted at the River Center Mall, so you have to walk a 5 or 10 minutes (on small section of the River Walk) to get to the main part of the river walk where the restaurants are. Sometimes you can get a decent rate through www.travelweb.com.
