San Antonio-dcespedes

dcespedes,
Coming back down that way the end of October to spend a couple days with our son. (he's a little home sick and needs some family to give him a boost)
Was looking at a cheaper hotel in the area and found Super 8 near Seaworld. I thought about the one's near Lackland but haven't read good reviews by folks who went recently on those places (bugs, dirty, and so on) This super 8 looks nice and is close to Lackland and cheap. What'cha know about it? Thanks

Melmg, where did you find the hotel reviews? We may be going to San Antonio in October when my daughter's suitor graduates from basic training at Lackland, and I know nothing about the area.

Hi Melmg! To be honest, I don't know where it is but if you provide me with an address I will check it out for you as I live close by. Given the choice, I would avoid the area around Lackland in favor of anything near Sea World as this is a newly developing area which tends to be cleaner, newer, and much prettier--lots of greenery vs. concrete. Also, it's a relatively quick, easy drive from the Sea World area. Again, I would be more than happy to drive by Super 8 just let me know, okay?

Melmg--I just did a search...is the Super 8 to which you refer on 410? If so, we pass by it often on the way to Lackland. It's located on the access road of a busy stretch of freeway, is relatively new and there are some very good restaurants in the area (Asia Market--one of our favorites and Acadiana). I would choose this over the Highway 90 (Lackland) area but just know that you will be adjacent to the 410 freeway. It's difficult being away from family--it's been 15 years for us so we've adjusted over time but the first 5 years were really hard!

Leeann,
this is the best site for those going to Lackland.

You can get answers to everything there.

Yep, that's the one. I don't mind being next to the freeway as long as I do not see bugs in my room.
That forum has many people who have said the hotels around Lackland are dirty and nasty. We stayed at Amerisuites-Riverwalk in August and that was beautiful. Since I'm just coming down for a "spirit boost", I'm trying to be a little cheaper this time.

I hear ya--you should be fine and dandy at the 410 location. The area around Lackland (I-90 corridor) is old and not well maintained. It's an easy--maybe 10 minute--drive to the base from where you'll be staying and there are a lot of places to eat and shopping centers close by should you need for something. It is beginning to cool off--funny thing, now that we are use to the summer heat once temps drop to 60 degrees it's freezing! I hope you enjoy a nice visit with your son--my family always depends on me to do the traveling so I think it is wonderful of you to visit him

Thanks for the link!

We're planning to go see my daughter's suitor, who is graduating from basic training October 15th. I don't think his aunt and uncle will be able to be there, so we thought we'd go be his "family" for a day.
