Salt Lake City Transporttion
Hi, again, everyone. Getting near the end of the itinerary and thinking about SLC.
Is this a drive-able city? We will have a good half day there, seeing a concert at Temple Square in the evening, and then heading out to the airport early the next morning for a 9 AM flight. Want to see the major sights (is there anything other than the LDS complexes?), have a nice dinner ...
So would it be wise to pick a hotel near Temple Square and then walk around downtown? Or is it just as easy to pick another location and drive in and park? I've read a little about the public transportation -- is that convenient and easy to use? (Don't want to invest a lot of time learning how to ride the train for one afternoon.)
I know what I'd do in Chicago, and I know what I'd do in Indianapolis (say), but have no idea about SLC.

The main hub of the Traxx is right next to the Amtrak station.
There is a zoo and an aquarium in addition to the Temple Square attractions. You could ride the Traxx in from Sandy if you didn't want to drive in the city of SLC.

SLC is extremely drivable. There really isn't any traffic outside of the usual morning and evening rush hour. I would get a hotel downtown and walk around--in half a day you aren't going to have time to see much. Downtown there is a planetarium and shopping plus the Temple Grounds. You could drive up to Red Butte Gardens--which is a great arboretium or see the Museum of Natural HIstory (which is next to Red Butte)--it has some awesome stuff in there!
And there are some really good restaurants in SLC--but you would be able to go to Pago and 9th and 9th, for example, if you had a car.

No real need to drive in the city.
There's a free tram system in downtown. It used to be free anyway. There was a stop half block from our hotel, Little America.
We wandered Temple Square, went into Genealogy center for a while, took a quick tour of the Capital Bldg and an abbreviated tour of Brigham Young's house.
Then we trammed back to the hotel, jumped in our car and were in the airport in 15 minutes.
