Salt Lake City to Moab: drive time/route?

We are leaving tomorrow for 5 days in Moab and I have gotten many varying times anywhere from 3-5.5 hours. Anyone recommend a specific drive I noticed on the map there looks like 2 routes that are doable.

Thanks
Megan

There are two good routes for getting from SLC to Moab but I can't imagine either of them only taking 3 1/2 hours. There always seems to be traffic in the SLC area. If it is windy on Hwy 6 then RV's get tossed around in the wind...I know from personal experience. What does that mean to you...watch for them to cross over the two lane road because of a sudden gust.

I-15, Hwy 6, I-70 & Hwy 191 is 235 miles. I'd plan on about 4 to 4 1/2 hours on this route.

I-15, Hwy 50, I-70, Hwy 191 is 310 miles but since most of it is Interstate driving it will take between 4 1/2 and 4 3/4 hours.

IMHO, the more scenic route is the second longer one. You drive thru the San Rafael Swell on I-70 after Fremont Junction.

If you are going back to SLC, then I'd do one route going and the other route going back.

Thanks utahtea... you've been very helpful in all of my planning! We only have short amount of time in Moab and I want to try and do it right. I'll let you know how it went when we get back.

By the way how much time have you spent in the area... it sounds like you have a really good grasp of the surrounding area!!!

Hi Spartangirl,

I live in Park City and go down to Moab at least once a year. It will take yuo 4 1/2 hours going on Hwy 6 through Price an down to Green River and I-70.

I-15 to I-70 is further, but little bit better speed limits too. Last time I took that route it was 5 hours.

It's very scenic and I second utahtea's advice to take one route and then the other going back.

Have fun in Moab, you 'll be back for more!

I've been to the Moab area 11 times since 1977. When we go we like to spend at least a week there. It's one of my favorite places! BTW, I live in California or I would have visited a lot more times!
