Salt Lake City activities
We have a day in Salt Lake City (following Yellowstone & Tetons) and are looking for the best way to spend it. We plan to visit Temple Square, but are wondering what else to do ("This is the place?" Great Salt Lake?" a museum? A mall?). Ages are 47 - 77, some with bad knees, so low stress activities are preferable. Thank you!

I was in Salt Lake City last year and went to the Great Salt Lake. I should have gone to Temple Square instead. But if you have the time, head up to Antelope Island State Park, 25 miles north of Salt Lake City off I-15, a little south of Ogden,Ut. Then, it is a little bit of a drive west, then a seven mile causeway over the lake, about 5 dollars to get in. There is a beach, but when of was there, there was little bit of a walk to the water, since the lake was low, but was very short and was walking on sand, very easy. The lake smells real bad because of the dead algae, but if you walk far out enough to into the lake the smell goes away, then you can just float without having to swim. The bottom of the lake drops off slowly, so you walk pretty far out into the water for it to be deep enough to float. They have showers at the parking area to wash off the salt (yes the lake is that salty), so salty nothing lives in the lake except small brine shrimp. The walk out to the lake is like in sand which gets very hot, so wear shoes. The rest of the park is seen by driving. There are bufflo and there a nice snack shack.

Hi B,
Two other suggestions for you from a local resident. Drive up Little Cottonwood Canyon and take a scenic ride up the Snowbird tram. The views are awesome.
Or, drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon to Brighton and take a walk around Silver Lake, again the scenery is awesome. Both canyons have some great restaurants too.
From Brighton, you can drive over Guardsmans Pass to Park City (part unpaved but ok for cars if you go slow). Another beautiful drive.
Check out historic Main Street. Galleries, excellent restaurants. Visit Utah Olympic Park where the bobsled, skeleton and luge competitions were held. You can even ride a summer bobsled down the track ($$). The Olympians put on a fantastic show on Saturdays at noon. Aerialists and even BMX bikers go off the "kickers" into the pool. You have to see it! Always sells out ahead of time so call in advance for tickets.
Lots to do here.....
