Safeco Field / Downtown Seattle?

I am going to be at a conference at the convention center in downtown Seattle June 1-3. I am hoping to catch a Mariners game while there. I see that it is about 1.75 miles from downtown to Safeco Field. My question is whether to walk? I can handle the distance, but is it safe? The game is a night game, so I will be walking (2 women) in the daylight to the game but in the dark when returning.

We walked to and from Safeco and there were LOTS of people walking after the game. The area was very busy, lots of folks around. Pioneer Square would be the one area that might be of concern, but we were fine with it. We walked to The Alexis, where we were staying with no problems, except for me not paying attention to where I was walking, and I walked into a big standpipe thing [I was looking in windows of a store] and ripping my good jeans and cutting my leg.

Walk to the game and if you have concerns, get a taxi for the ride back.

I wouldn't wander around Pioneer Square by myself at night, but if you leave with the crowd as the stadium empties, you should have no problem.

It's not a problem, I've walked back downtown after games numerous times by myself with no issues.

For slightly enhanced clarity... Walk out of the stadium to the west, and then proooooobably up 1st avenue the whole way, and if there is any hint of a crowd around at all, you'll be fine without any worries that way.

If leaving the stadium to the due north, and not comforted by scores of other game-goers, you could find yourself in areas of concern. But 1st avenue will bring you through the hustle and bustle of bars and restaurants near Pioneer Square and should prove no problem at all.

Cut back to First Avenue from the stadium and follow up towards the market and then cut back over toward the Convention Center. Don't take Pike, take Pine or Union.
