I am looking for recommendations for an inexpensive but nice hotel/motel in Sacramento.

I suggest you use the TEXT SEARCH feature.
There was a recent questin about Sacramento lodging and several answers to it.
Just type:
Sacramento in the empty box.
Then click on the FIND button.
All the hold questions/answers about Sacramento will appear on your left after the Search is completed.
Good luck and enjoy your time in California's Capitol.

What part of Sacramento do you want? There are a lot of hotels downtown but none are inexpensive.

The best prices for decent quality rooms are along the suburban highway corridors -- I-5, I-80, and Hwy 50.

If you want to be downtown the best rates will be at the Holiday Inn and Vagabond Inn - both are on J street right off of I-5 near Old Sacramento, or the Mansion Inn on 16th street (Hwy 160) towards midtown.

Out in the suburbs you will find all the usual suspects -- TravelLodge, Red Roof, La Quinta, Motel 6, Extended Stay, Comfort Inn, Courtyard, etc etc . . . .

See BiddingForTravel.com. Check out the California-Sacramento hotel topic for info on winning bids. Most people have been able to get 4* hotels like the downtown Hyatt and the Sheraton Grand for under $50/night. 3* hotels are even cheaper.

If you decide to use Priceline, be sure to read the Hotel FAQs on BiddingForTravel to understand how to use free rebids to maximize your chances of a successful bid without overpaying for a room.

Usual disclaimers apply--no vested interest in your using Priceline or BiddingForTravel, no guarantee you'll be able to match previous winning bids (although it's possible you could match or even beat them), you can't pick a specific hotel (only a star-level and a Priceline zone in the city), yadda, yadda...

Anyway, hope you find a nice hotel at a good price, whatever you choose to do. Have a great time in Sacramento!

Thanks for the help.
We made a reservation at the Best Western on Howe. We have always had good luck with BW.

Has anyone stayed at the Sacramento Hilton?

If so, any good/bad comments?

Thanks.

My husband stays here alot when he's in Sacramento for business.

It is located adjacent to Business I-80, so you may want to make sure they put you in a room on the other side of the hotel.

Otherwise, this is a great location in terms of being centrally located with easy access to all downtown. Sacramento has great public transit, too.

Thanks for the info. DeeDee. I now realize that the Hilton property is the Arden West location so that could be the same one. Sorry. Anyway, all or almost all Hiltons should be ok.
