sacramento ca

My husband is going to a meeting in Sacramento Nov 4-11. I am trying to decide
if I want to go along. What is there to do there and any suggestions for restaurants.
Thanks for your help.

Old town Sacramento is a wonderful place to visit. There is also a website:www.oldsacramento.com
There are shops, riverboat, neat museums, etc.

7 days in Sacramento is about 5 too many.

If you are considering going make sure you have a car and can leave the city for the surrounding areas for a couple of days.

I mean leave the city for day trips as I assume you will be staying in Sacramento each night.

My daughter lives in Sac - I think it gets more of a bad rap than it deserves.

The Midtown area has lots of nice restaurants and some shops - Old Town in OK- most of the shops are kind of touristy though

The best part about Sac is its proximity to other cool places - Napa, Tahoe, San Francisco, gold country ,
Not sure you will find ebough to do for that many days unless you get out of town

If you will have a car and can take off and visit the surrounding areas, I would definitely go. But I agree with the others - Sac has things to recommend it, but not really enough to fill up that much time.

There are enough things to fill your time - depending on what sorts of things you like.

W/o a car you can:

1) visit Old Sacramento (lots of shops, restaurants, river front, 1850's/1860's Architecture).

2) Crocker Art museum - oldest west of the Mississippi

3) Tour the State Capitol

4) Sutter's Fort (locals sometimes laugh that all we have is Sutter's Fort -- but it actually is interesting)

5) State museum/Women's museum on O street.

6 ) Take Light rail out to the town of Flosom and tour Sutter Street - lots of shops/restaurants/antiques, etc in an 1880/90's historical district

7) several really good theater companies w/ something worth seeing just about every day.

That is besides all the MANY really great restaurants and good shopping like at Arden Fair (Nordstrom and all the usual suspects). Lots of small independent/funkier shops/art galleries in Mid town.

W/ a car then you have a MUCH larger choice - including the Amador county wine country (like what Napa was 30 years ago before it was ruined by over-popularity) . 45 mins east of downtown Sac you will be in the middle of a winery region w/ great wines and beautiful scenery. Mostly near the vilage of Plymouth

an hour east of Sac you will be in Apple Hill - a foothill farm trail w/ about 100 farms/wineries/craft shops etc. Centered around Camino just east of Placerville.

Roseville Just NE of Sacramneto has the huge Galleria w/ another Nordstrom and nearby Nordstrom Rack and every type of chain store.

Just north of the Galleria is the Thunder Valley Indian Casino if you are into gambling at all.

In Davis just west of Sacramento is the terrific quality Mondavi Center w/ world famous performances
