RV Rentals in Alaska???

Would anyone share their insight on RV rental sources in Alaska? My husband and I are planning a trip this summer and would appreciate hearing your suggestions on RV sources and experiences RVing in Alaska. Thanks.

I spent 5 weeks in Alaska a few years ago. Although I did not RV, I can tell you that transportation of all kinds is very expensive up there. There are a few rental places in Anchorage. Be prepared to pay big time. If you are thinking of driving *RV or otherwise*, you need to read 'The Milepost.' It is the Bible of driving in the Yukon and Alaska. It goes into great depth about towns along the roads with services, things to see, etc. It also is chock full of good maps and great tips/warnings.

I'm sure that by doing a simple search in yahoo or some such place that you could come across some rental places. I did look into them for my trip, but was more than I wanted to pay.

If I can help you in any way about Alaska in general, please feel free to email me.

We rented a 25-foot RV last June in Anchorage. I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but I think we ended up paying about $1,200 for the week. As I recall, that included 100 free miles a day (we ended up going over that). Gasoline, food and certain campground fees were, of course, extra. (The RV came with a pass that allowed us to stay for free in state campgrounds.)

The 25-footer was big enough for three of us, though we probably could have squeezed in a few more if we had pushed it. That probably would have been overdoing it, though.

I have to admit I went up with some misgivings, but I ended up thoroughly enjoying it, especially when we were in some of the state campgrounds off the beaten track. (Denali was beautiful, but there were a fair number of people there, especially near the park's entrance where a lot of the RVs are.)

Driving the RV took a bit of getting used to, especially in Anchorage, which had more traffic than I would have imagined. But once we were on the open road, it was fine.

We rented, by the way, from a place called Alaska Economy RV.

Several years ago, my husband and I rented a Ford F150 truck with a camper top from Compact RV Rentals in Anchorage. It worked out well for us! We found their add in the "Alaska" magazine. "The Milepost" is a great guide for anyone planning on driving in Alaska.
