Royal Omni Orleans

Anyone stayed there - any comments?? Or any other suggestions for romantic hotels in the French Quarter? Much appreciated.

The Royal Sonesta in New Orleans is a beautiful hotel. It's elegant, beautifully decorated and a great location. It's located on Bourbon Street so rooms that overlook Bourbon would be noisy. Opt instead for Courtyard or pool view rooms.

Royal Orleans and Royal Sonesta are both
very nice hotels in the middle of it all. Also very nice is the Westin Canal Place and the Hilton Riverside.

My husband and I stayed there back in January and were quite disappointed with the Omni. Tthe room was shabby with a cracked sink, mold in the grout in the bathroom, cobwebs in the corners, threadbare sheets and the tiniest television (maybe 15") I've ever seen in a hotel. We had to call maintenance to come fix the television since it didn't work but we didn't discover that until day two. There are plenty of other places to stay where you would get more for your money.

If you have a car, I'd suggest trying B&Bs. Business acquaintances sent us that way on our first trip 5 years ago. We even spent a night in the boys room on Notaway Plantation. And the locals will cook you true cajun and creole cooking and tell you all the best places to go. We now own a timeshare in the Quarter and go back annually. The actual Quarter is deep into partying. Do travel outside if you can. You didn't ask, but if I may sugest a couple of our favourite restaurants in the Quarter are Crescent City Brewery, Bella Luna and, of course, Emeril's. Our first visit to Emeril's was that first trip. It's grown with his popularity but we were back again this year and still impressed. New Orleans has the BEST food and service you will find anywhere! Also, Court of the Two Sisters Sunday Jazz Buffet is awsome. If you'd like to chat more, email me back and I'd be happy to share more. We'll be there to recoperate from our son's wedding this fall!
