Route planning advice
We're here in Texas on holiday from the UK and tomorrow morning (Monday) we will be driving from Plano to San Antonio. We're planning to go via Natural Bridge Caverns. I'd really appreciate some advice on the best route to take. Thanks!

If you have the time and want to see a little of the Texas Hill Country, I would take I40 west to 281 and drive it South thru Stephenville, Lampassas, Marble Falls and a dozen smaller towns. Just south of Spring B ranch, take 46 east to NBC.
After the Cavern, you can go back to 281 and drive
South to San Antonio

Rich meant to type I20 West (I40 goes through Oklahoma). From Plano take the George Bush Turnpike to I-30W, which becomes I-20W. The George Bush Turnpike is a toll road, but worth every penny.
I don't know if this will work, but here is the route I described on MapQuest: http://classic.mapquest.com/maps?1c=...=CITY#mqPgSt16
I-35 South will be quicker, but not only less scenic, it will be more nerve racking. It is a high traffic roadway, with many large trucks.
Have a good trip.

Well, that did NOT work. That did the original route without the modifications I made. Too bad our post can't be edited or I would remove that link.
Anyways, you can trace the route we described with the cursor and it will change for you, giving a detailed description for you with exits and so forth.

Thanks so much for the advice which we followed. Worth the extra time as it was so much more interesting. Drive a but of the I35 today from San Antonio to Natural Bridge Caverns and so glad we avoided it all the way down from Dallas.
