Route 66

Planning my first trip to Arizona. I saw an article on the news the other day about Route 66. I noticed that it ran from east to west through the state of Arizona. Can somebody tell me what cities it goes through? Is it worth traveling on?

According to the song, Route 66 runs right through Kingman, Arizona.

If you will be traveling on I-40 in Arizona there is a stretch of old rt 66, off of 40, that is in a time warp - it runs from Kingman to Seligman.

The other responses are correct, but the best place to stop is in Oatman, AZ, where the road winds around the mountain ..pretty drive! A mining town (still working) and hard to believe people really do live there. Talk about stepping back in time...but it's fun and they have donkeys walking through the town and the hotel where Clark Gable and Carol Lombard stayed (supposedly)on their way back to CA. is still a "showplace" on the second floor of the hotel.

I second John's suggestion of the section going through Oatman. Very pretty, winding drive with a lot of switchbacks though -- so like the song says: take it easy. You'll see some wrecks that missed the hairpins which were never recovered from their resting places.
