My boyfriend and I have planned a long weekend in San Diego. Any suggestions as to what romantic options are available? I would appreciate a variance of ideas ranging from simple and fun to the unique and expensive. Thanks in advance for your input!

Dinner at the Marine Room in La Jolla during sunset would be romantic or you might like to have dinner at George's, also in La Jolla. Taking a Hornblower cruise of San Diego harbor is fun. I don't know if you have a hotel yet but there is a business on Harbor Island marina that rents out boats that you can stay on instead of staying in a hotel. They are docked in the marina but for a fee they will take you out boating/ sailing and will also prepare you a meal while out sailing if you want or take you to a waterfront restaurant. I can't remember the name of the business but believe I found out about them in the latest Fodor's guide to San Diego.

I don't think there's anything much more romantic than the Hotel Del Coronado and the beach with the great views back to San Diego. There's also a great Mexican restaurant across the street from the hotel--name escapes me, but it's on a Fodor's post.

The name of the restaurant is Miguel's Cocina and is located in a courtyard across from the Hotel Del Coronado. You cannot actually see the restaurant from the street but it is next to the Brigantine ( same owner ) which is visible.

SDSam, Yes I did eat at the restaurant, but for whatever reason, I have a block when it comes to the name of it. And, yes, it's not right on the street as I remember it.

I did not mean to sound rude. I was just curious. I reread my posting and decided that I could have worded it a little better. In any event I enjoy your postings a great deal and am very happy that you enjoyed Miguel's Cocina.

After heartily recommending Miguel's cocina for many years, I have to report a bad experience. There are 2 Miguel's Cocinas in the San Diego area. One is the above mentioned one in Coronado and the pther is by Shelter Island in Point Loma. They both are owned by the Brigantine and are exactly the same as far as the menu goes. We often eat at the one at Shelter Island as well as the other. The one at Shelter Island is very convenient to the San Diego airport. In any event I am digressing here so let me get to the point We ate there a couple of months ago and were very disappointed in the quality of the food. I ordered carne asada. They used a much cheaper cut of meat than before and it really was pretty poor. I will give them another opportunity but if it doesn't improve than they will be off of my list.

SDSAM - do you know whether the Mexican Village Restaurant on Coronado is still popular? And - what do you think of the Brig these days? I used to love the fresh grilled Swordfish.

I believe that the Mexican Village restaurant is on Orange Ave. I haven't been there in years. Last few times that I passed by it was nearly empty. Miguel's Cocina on the other hand is almost always full.

The Brigantine is a good restaurant. I don't consider it to be outstanding but it is good. I usually eat at the one in Del Mar or Poway. The one in Poway is more elegant than the others but is off the beaten path for tourists.

The Hotel Del Coronado is definitely romantic and the type of hotel that would make you want to come back year after year. Renting bikes there and exploring the island is wonderful. You can tke the trolley tour of San Diego from a stop on Coronado or pick it up elsewhere in S.D. There is a restaurant on Coronado called Peohe's that is on the water, looking at the San Diego skyline.
