Romantic Hotel in Ventura/Oxnard

Wanted a place for a quick get-away next month. My SO has a conference in Oxnard in October. We have been to Santa Barbara several times so looking for something different.

Any ideas?

Try the Bella Maggiore (sp?) Inn in Ventura; very nice with attached restuarant. There may be other B&B's I'm not aware of. The Holiday Inn is on the nicest beach; the facility is getting a little old but its hard to beat the location and the views. In Oxnard the best place is the EmbassySuites/Mandalay Beach Resort; its a bit expensive but complete and very nice. The older Casa Sirena is at Channel Islands harbor and is still nice. A smaller hotel nearby is the Casa via Mar; great if you like tennis. Good luck

Thanks for the reply. Is the Mandalay a romantic place for a weekend get-away? I always see ads for it in the LA Times but have never been.

I have stayed at the Mandalay and it could be very romantic. The lobby is pretty, Spanish style. The pool area is nice and the rooms are all suites. However, it is in a very very windy location. At times, it is uncomfortably windy and a front desk employee told me that, although unpredictable, it is windy most of the year at the resort. Otherwise, a great location and truly right on the beach.

We had dinner at Capistrano's in the Mandalay Beach/Embassy Suites last nite and it was very nice- upscale and somewhat expensive but worth it. Had roast duck and chicken ravoli - both were excellent. Funny we had never considered going there before - its less than a mile from our house. The lobby area and grounds were beautiful. I dont know what its like to stay there but looks very nice.

Thanks again--We are booked at the Mandalay this weekend. I'll post a report when I get back!

Here is a travel article from the LA Times that might be of interest.

Would anyone happen to know anything of the: Harbortown Point Marina Resort & Club, at 1651 Anchors Way, Ventura?

Considering a weekend getaway myself and was curious of this resort.

Thanks!
