Romantic honeymoon suggestions
We are planning our honeymoon for mid-September, and I would like any ideas for romantic places to go. It will be for about a week and good sightseeing is important. Some ideas I have are San Francisco/Monterey, New England, or the Rockies. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I'm a newlywed myself and we went to Oahu and Maui for our honeymoon. Being in Oahu before, we only stayed there for a 3 nights, the rest of our 6 day trip was in Maui. We stayed at the Maui Prince Hotel in Makena. It's a little on the far end, but it was beautifully secluded with the hotel on the beach. We were right next to the Big Beach and Little Beach (this is a nude beach). It was a really fun experience for us when we went to the nude side. It wasn't anything at all what we thought it would be. They were all naturalists there. Mothers with toddlers, honeymooners. Then of course there were the scammers. We ignored them and had a great time... not to mention a great tan! You'll definitely have fun there not to mention a great time to relax after the hectic wedding!

I recently got married also and we went to the Pocono's in Pennsylvania. It is susposed to be the honeymoon capital of the US. The whole area is a dump. All of the buildings are run down and We stayed in a very expensive resort, until we left after staying 6 hours. I would suggest the coast of North Carolina in Nags Head or Manteo. This is where we got married. It is one of the most beautiful areas on the east coast. If you do go definately stay at a bed and breakfast, and keep reservations short so you can hop from area to area. Your probable on the west coast but its a good vacation.

My mom has lived in San Francisco for at least 6 years now and visit her at least once a year. San Francisco is my favorite city. I always feel safe walking around by myself even at night. Its amazing how quiet it is for a big city at night. You didnt say what type of place you'd like to stay at in the city but if your interested in a B&B I would recommend the Artists( I'll double check the name if your really interrested). We stayed in the capt. room. Its like a small apt. with fireplace in bedroom, very romantic! Also I would consider taking a side trip up to Napa valley. September is harvesting time for the grapes and lots going on around that time of year! Well if you have anymore questions I'd be happy to answer them just E-mail me. Congradulations!

The others all make good points so I'll just throw in my 2 cents. I haven't been to Hawaii, but want to, but its not on your list. Lived in New Jersey for a year and made it up to Vermont, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. Desparately wanted to see Cape Cod, and didn't get to. I know Hilton Head is supposed to be beautiful. I have been to the Canadian Rockies and they are GORGEOUS, Banff is a city there that is gorgeous and Lake Peyto is beyond belief. Myself, got married in Highlands Inn int Carmel, Ca and we traveled highway l up to Frisco, Monterey and (darn, can't remember-its where the Monarch butterflies stay on the trees every year). Take the 17 mile drive in Carmel, walk on the wharfs. Very nice. For an extra buzz..we took a detour and went to Vegas for 2 nights and won some money! That was fun!

we just got back from Kauai,Hawaii. We stayed in
Hanelei at the Princeville resort. It is a gorgeous
hotel where the rooms are as nice as the public spaces. The lobby looks like Versailles. There is
a very lovely beach with great snorkeling, excellent
chef. Not inexpensive but money can be saved by
contacting Roberts Overnifgters in Honolulu.They
have hotel discounts on all the islands.
The hotel would be a great spot for a honeymoon!

I have traveled extensively in the Rockies. My favorite places are Banff & Jasper, Grand Teton National Park, Glacier National Park. I know a wonderfully romantic Bed & Breakfast just outside of Glacier (whatever you do, DO NOT stay in the park). It's called Bad Rock Bed & Breakfast. They have a web page, just search on the name. Wonder gourmet breakfast, friendly and helpful hosts and extremely clean facilities. We stayed two days and could have stayed a week.

I agree with some of the others. Western Canada is absolutely gorgeous. We spent time in Banff, Lake Louise (you have to stay at Chateau Lake Louise!!), and drove up the glacier hwy. It's so beautiful that you stop every 5 miles to take a picture!! Athabasca Falls is really great..it's right before Jasper. We stayed at a really romantic cabin in Jaspar that had a fireplace and it was so neat!! Can't remember the name right now but e-mail me if you are interested and I'll send it to you.
I went to Kauai, Hawaii on my honeymoon (15 years ago) and it was beautiful. We also drove the Pacific Coast Hwy and I too loved Monterrey, Carmel, and San Franciso.
Good luck!

Carole I don't know if you're limited to the good old USA but may I suggest Ireland. You could fly in and out of Shannon stay at some nice B&B's along the West Coast and for a real treat spend a night or two in a real castle ( Ashford for example).

My husband and I renew our vows every year in Point Reyes, North of San Francisco about an hour. The coast there is stunning any time of year and there are many wonderful B&B's, restaurants and the National Seashore is full of wonderful private places for romantic picnics. If you want to know more please write to me.

Aspen, CO is very romantic. Especially in the fall when the Aspen trees are gold, the crowds are gone and the room rates are low. It is so romantic to walk around this old mining town, hand in hand, in the evening when the stars are out. There are some wonderful B & B's in victorian style homes.

I live on the west coast and have traveled extensively from San Diego up to Vancouver BC, over to Banff area, all through the northern Rockies. Because your travelling in Sept., you could get wet weather north of Portland, Ore. I've found that the best time to travel along the California coast is in late Sept. or Oct. It's usually not foggy as in July & August. My favorite is the Mendacino coast.is very nice, SF, Carmel & Monterey is also great in Sept.

How does this sound, Fly to NYC and spend two nights. Take a carriage ride through Central Park tea at the Plaza hotel and a walk down 5th Ave. Spend the next day atop a double decker bus and go see the view from the World Trade Center - not the observation deck but the bar in the other tower - same floor - more relaxing. Perhaps an evening musical. Then put away your city clothes and rent a car at JFK and head north. Stop at Hyde Park and take in a romantic luch or dinner at the CIA - Culinary Institute of America. There are great B & B's in this neighborhood - I suggest Beekman Arms ( the oldest Inn in America) Very cozy. The next day do the wine tour of three vineyards, Clinton, Millbrook and ?. Have dinner at the Arms and make an early night of it. Then get back in the car the next day and drive to Saratoga Springs. Maybe take in a race or a mineral bath at the famous spa. There is an incredible Hotel there that I'm forgetting the name of...it's the best in town. Stay a couple of nights then head over to Vermont. There are plenty of interesting places to see there. Then go to Montreal for some more city life. Fly home.

After nearly 18 years of spending my life either (1) traveling with my wife (2) planning travels with my wife or (3) earning enough money and vacation time to travel with my wife; I have some definite favorites for romantic spots. We stopped saying "second honeymoon" a long time ago; we're now on our 23rd (and we don't count trips that aren't romantic!) I recognize you may have different wishes for a perfect honeymoon, so I'll list what each city has to recommend it. In no particular order: Hawaii, any of the four islands, ocean sports; Denver/ Colorado Springs, mountains and shopping; upper New England, quaint villages, covered bridges; San Francisco, restaurants and shops; Lake Tahoe, mountains and nearby casinos; southern Utah, desert beauty; Glacier/Banff, mountains; Yellowstone /Tetons, scenery and wildlife. In case you're wondering, we spent our first honeymoon in a non-descript cabin by a non-descript lake 60 km from our home! You don't need to be exotic to have romance -- just passion and commitment!

I would highly recommend September in the San Francisco Bay Area. The sightseeing is spectacular and the food incredible. The quality of light and the weather in the early fall is wonderful. I would agree with other comments regarding Pt. Reyes and the wine country, particularly the Valley of the Moon and Sonoma . If you want to get away, the Sonoma Coast just south of Mendocino is a little more remote. Best wishes and have fun!

My husband and I got married last year, and we went to Nantucket Island, off the coast of Massachusetts for our week long honeymoon. It is the most wonderful, romantic place. We stayed in a rose covered cottage on a bluff overlooking the ocean in 'Sconset. The village of Nantucket is full of great shops and restaurants. You can ride bicycles all over the island, and the houses are so historic and beautiful. And, in September, the Island really quiets down because all of the summer visitors leave, so it would be a really nice time to go. I really can't recommend Nantucket enough! Check out their website -- I think it is www.nantucket.com.
