Rocky Mountain National Park
We will be in Denver for 6 weeks and would like to head over to Rocky Mountain National Park to see the sights. But we will have our dog with us. Can we still drive the roads, stop and see things, etc. with her? I know we are not allowed on the back roads with a pet...is it worth it to go while we have her? Thanks!

While RMNP, like almost all natural wonders, is best experienced by getting on hiking trails, views from the road are worth a day trip from Denver. Dogs ON A LEASH are permitted in paved areas.

Dear MyBailey:
My husband and I were in Colorado in June along with our dog. Yes, you can drive thru Rocky Mountain National Park with your dog.. you just can't do any hiking. Dogs are allowed in the parking areas and picnic areas on a leash. The scenery is beautiful, so my husband drove and I took a lot of pictures. If I needed to walk my dog, I took her near the designated parking/picnic area. It was definitely worth going as long as you are aware you can't hike with your dog.

If you are interested in doing some Rocky Mountain hiking with your dog, get up to Summit County and get a copy of the Summit Hiker at Gart Sports in Dillon. You'll find hundreds of miles of trails and gorgeous views. You can go up to Loveland Pass at 11,990 feet and be nearly as high as Trail Ridge Road. There are some excellent accommodation options as well.

Here's a website regading pet etiquette in Rocky Mountain National Park, actually it describes everything you need to know about all the National Park. I seem to recall that you can hike at Roosevelt National Forest in Estes Park...close to RMNP.
