Road Trip with Infant

We are moving from Detroit to Florida and are considering driving the distance with our 6 month baby, any helpful suggestions or comments from people who have done long trips with baby in the car.

Thanks

You should manage quite well. I would time a lot of the driving when your baby is sleeping, which at 6 mos, is a lot more than a toddler would be sleeping. bring music, books, entertaining toys and enjoy time sitting next to your baby and giving him/her lots of attention. I think it will be much easier driving at this age then once they are older and after 10 minutes in the car, it's "are we there yet...how long til we get there...how long til we stop...i gotta go to the bathroom.

What Rachel said. It should be easier at 6 mos than later on.

In addition to snacks and a few new toys, here are some other ideas:

1. Pamper's Bibsters -- disposable bibs
2. Those disposable changing pads -- great for changing the baby in the car
3. 6 oz cans of formula -- less waste
4. small bottles of water either for the baby's bottle if baby drinks water or for mixing formula, if you plan to do so.
5. lots of extra diapers and wipes
6. several grocery store plastic bags for trash, including diapers and wipes.

Good luck.

One thing that may happen is that baby may sleep far more than usual in car - and hence be awake more at night - so plan accordingly because sleep deprivation and driving are not a good combination.

I didn't mean the sleep deprived baby would be doing the driving!
