Road trip to the Deep South revisited......itinerary for your perusal

We are from Scotland and have done many trips to The South.
All of them are now in April or October, we swore never again in August after just one trip when it was too hot and humid for the average Brit to exist. It ruined a trip, just be careful, it isn't the heat but the humidity that comes with it.
It was just one trip and the weather MAY have been extreme but be aware that 27oC in Savannah is far hotter than 45oC in Seville!
Beaufort (Bewfort)(Bowfort is in North Carolina) is a wonderful little place, try to visit St Helena island and The Penn centre. The church of St Helena is in centre of Beaufort and is great, somebody has placed flags on the graves to indicate which side of the War of Independence the soldier was fighting for. Very odd to see Union Jacks on graves in Beaufort.
If you like wildlife then don't miss the chance to hire kayaks and paddle with the pods of dolphins in the marshes, they strand feed here which is a spectacular sight.
Don't miss at least one night in Savannah, Bonaventure is eerie.
If you go to one plantation house in Charleston, go to Drayton Hall as it doesn't give the Hollywood version of events on offer at the other sites. It honestly calls itself a concentration camp.
It is well worth reading and learning in detail about the relationship between this area and Britain before and during the War of Independence. Much of this history including slavery is conveniently papered over by our education system.
We love the story of Francis Marion who fought against Britain for South Carolina.
