RMNP Trail Ridge Road Update?

Hi - we will be traveling through Colorado in late October (approx Oct 26-28) and were wondering what the odds are that trail ridge road would be open through Rocky Mountain National Park that time of year? We've also heard that there has been some major construction on the road this spring/summer. Does anyone have any updates ? Thanks for your help

Probably won't help, but last August, the last time I took that road, it was already snowing. I wouldn't expect it would be passable in October.

TRR usually closes for the season in mid-October. The odds of it being open in late October are pretty slim.

Here's the Park Service info on TRR construction, which shouldn't impact daytime travel any longer:

http://www.nps.gov/romo/planyourvisi...road_const.htm

Here's the webpage with info on road closures, including TRR:

http://www.nps.gov/romo/planyourvisi...conditions.htm

This page from the Colorado Dept. of Transportion has real-time road conditions and closures, including TRR (Hwy 34, near the bottom of the page)

http://www.cotrip.org/rWeather/All_R...07_135901.html

Keep in mind that you can still drive for many miles in the park all year round - you can even climb up TRR a considerable distance before you hit the closure barriers. There is still a slim chance the road will be open, but don't plan your trip around it.

Have you ever been?

I hope you can see some of RMNP. Its lovely.

Keep your eyes out. Sometimes it doesn't snow until December, sometimes it snows in August. Last week, it was raining in Steamboat and the Rabbit Ears Pass remained clear from Snow.

This week, they are talking about snow in the 'high country'. My intuition is that it will be snowing very soon. RMNP is very nice, in the snow too!
