Returning to Santa Fe after 18 years!
Hi, Fodorites. I lived in Santa Fe for most of the 90's and loved my time there. In '98, I graduated from the now defunct New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts (very sad) and headed back to the east coast. I didn't want to be another starving massage therapist in S.F.
I can't tell you how I have missed N.M.- chile, mountains, people. So many things. I am finally returning for the first time in February! I'll be spending a few days in Santa Fe (Inn on the Alameda) and have rented an Airbnb casita in La Madera, near Ojo Caliente for three nights. Then I'll be returning to Santa Fe for a night and have one night in ABQ before returning to Baltimore. I've heard that (of course) Santa Fe has changed. What changes have you seen over the last decade or two? Any recommendations of great restaurants that have opened since I left? Fortunately, it is the landscape itself that I love the most. And green chile. I imagine those things haven't changed much. Gracias!

I think Ojo Caliente might have spruced up a bit since you were last there, from what I have heard. I have been twice in the last few years and enjoyed it very much.
The Tesque flea market has changed locations but is still in the general area. It seemed smaller than before last time we were there. Of course there are the casinos on 285 now, too.
Plaza Cafe was closed for a long time after a fire. It's back but doesn't have the same vibe to me.
The farmers market (I think it is on Tuesday and Saturday) is huge and very fun. If it was there before, it was very small. It's near the railyard. They even have a parking garage!!!
Your post is putting me in the Santa Fe mood! Have fun!!!
