Retirement job involving travel? Any suggestions?

I have retired early and am now at loose ends. I would love to have a part time job with flexible hours that would involve some sort of travel. I am very restless and would love to be exploring. I would be a solo traveller and have somewhat limited resources. I am not comfortable talking in front of groups so probably being a tour director is the not the best option for me

I would not even mind a job as a courier if they even have those anymore or a job driving cars from location to location. Of course something more glamorous would be even better. I have done internet searching but without very good results.

Thought I would ask on the forum if anyone has any suggestions or could point me in the right direction. I do not want to work full time and do not need health insurance or other fringes.

I have travelled quite a bit - been to Vietnam and on three European trips. Have also travelled a lot through USA. I am comfortable travelling alone so that is not an issue. I just don't know what to do in terms of finding my dream pt job. Please help me if you can!

Hello Pam, I know several women who more or less have the same thoughts so you are not alone.

But you did not state what skills you have, what your past experience is career wise. Best regards.

I am a CPA and was a controller for a small college for many years and have public accounting experience. I have also spent way too much time online in the past several years so am also very familiar with searching out the best prices, etc. I am not so certain I want another accounting job but would not mind doing some type of research. I just am having a hard time finding any type of online resources that may help me find such a position.

A friend's son is enjoying travel, living in a camper and long term nursing assignments. Perhaps you should look into temp agencies that are part of a national chain. Work a little in a different city/state plus have time to explore. Another friend's son, professional chef, discovered working on a cruise ship was terrible.

Pam
We have given some thought to working in the National Parks when DH retires. Most workers are retirees and you do it for the season. If interested in finding out more: http://tinyurl.com/2npsn3

Pam, talk with people who travel for a living. It is really a chore.

Personally, I'd rather get a part time job that pays well and put that money towards travel.

Good luck!

I think it'd be fun to become a AAA inspector. I only want to inspect the 4*'s though.

Relais & Chateaux, Small Luxury Hotels, Leading Hotels of the World, etc all look for inspectors.

They don't pay but you get your hotel stay paid for.

Pam - congrats on your retirement. I met someone on a ferry to St. John, USVI that participates in the Maho Bay work exchange program every year. She seemed to enjoy it.

Good luck in your search.

Technically I'm not retired (just a longtime SAHM), but in a few weeks I'm re-entering the workforce part-time working for an event planner and I'll be going to all the events the agency is running!

I am so psyched!

Nina, get a really fantastic pair of black shoes you can run your tushie off in.

My gay boyfriend is a wedding planner/event planner and it is hectic crazy work!

Good luck and have fun!

Getting paid to travel is possible, but as you are finding, difficult to find. A more likely option is to travel and then get paid at your various destinations.

Someone else suggested Temp agencies and I thinki that's a good idea for a CPA or people with office skills. Another possibility might be to attend a dealer's school and then deal table games at casinos around the country. If my area is any indication, they are always looking for dealers. The pay is only marginal but if you are personable, tips can be very good.

If you do that, you have to be prepared to wait out the bureaucratic processes. Every jurisdiction has their own requirements for licensing gaming personnel.

I'd call a few Temp agencies in areas where I think I might like to visit for a time and see what jobs are in high demand.
