resteraunts in Monterey
Me and the missus are planning a trip down to Monterey at the end of the month and I am wondering if anyone can recommend a great resteraunt in that area. We love Carmel as well. There are so many good resteraunts down there I just wanted to see if anyone has a particular favorite. French, Seafood, etc.
Thanks,

The Fresh Cream. Reservations a must, coat & tie. They have a web site. You will have an incredible meal, great service, good views if you are near or next to window. Web site has menu. This is $$$$ but worth it for that special occassion.
South of Carmel, just off Hiway 1, Rio Cafe (or Grill?) More informal, very fun, tex-mex menu.

Our favorite "restaurant" in Monteray is a park bench along the bike/walkway/rollerblade path up near the breakwater and Coast Guard cutter.
It sits at the top of a small rise and overlooks the bay. It looks back towards the wharf, the city and the hills. You can see across the bay to Santa Cruz.
We stop at the wharf and pick up a loaf of sourdough, a couple of grilled salmon steaks, marinated calamari and a bottle of Chard and set up a picinic dinner right before sunset!
Beautiful!

I second the recommendation above for Rio Grill. One time Clint Eastwood came in as we were leaving at sat at the table we had vacated. The waitress told us he was there, but didn't hurry us.
Casanova is one of my all-time favorites in Carmel. Wonderful ambience and delicious food.

Fandango's in Pacific Grove is outstanding.
Pepper's in Pacific Grive is good, inexpensive Mexican food for the locals.
Ditto on Roy's at Spanish Bay.
Il Fornaio in the Pine Inn in Carmel is good.
Mission Ranch for lunch on the weekends. Owned by Clint Eastwood and set with view of the water.
