restaurants on Kauai

We are leaving tomorrow for a week on Kauai, any suggestions for restaurants? We are a couple in our 40's who enjoy fine dining as well as more casual places.

In Hanalei there is a restaurant called Sushi Blues that was great. And if you like the traditional plate lunch we stopped at L&L Drive-In a couple of times.

Hi, Leslie -

A Pacific Cafe on the East side of Kauai; The Beach House and Casa di Amici on the South shore, plus several wonderful restaurants at the Hyatt/Poipu; Bali Hai at the Hanalei Bay Resort on the North Shore for spectacular views at sunset of Bali Hai; Zelos and Hanalei Dolphin for casual but very good meals on the North Shore - you have chosen the best of the Hawaiian islands IMHO. Enjoy all that wonderful island has to offer.

Aloha Karen,
We were over this past Dec/Jan and had two great meals at Coconuts and Lemon Grass in the Kapaa area, right near the Safeway.

Knowing the restaurant business, do you know if they are still open?

To add a few suggestions for Leslie, I'm sure Marvelous Margot from Jersey will agree, The Roadrunner Cafe in Kiluea; then Kalaheo Steakhouse, Mema's, Hong Kong Cafe, Kintaro's, Yamura's Saimin Stand and Brick Oven Pizza.

Also can't wait for some Kalua Pork Nachos at the Waimea Brewing Co.!

132 more days!
Mahalo,
Kal

Kitaro's, Beach House, Dukes, A Pacific Cafe. were our top choices for dinner.

On thre way back from Princeville we stopped at Duane's Ono Burger and it was great. Ate em in the car with the top down looking towards sleeping giant with a rainbow in the background. Enjoy!

Note to Kal -

I believe Lemon Grass is still open, but am not sure about about Coconuts. We usually split our time between the North and South Shores, and, other than a trip to A Pacific Cafe, rarely dine on the East side of the island. I'm sure we're missing some other good eateries. I can't believe I forgot to mention to Leslie (I'm sure she's in Kauai now) BOP (Brick Oven Pizza) one of our fav casual dining nights, that wonderful garlic crusted pizza. Also, we have enjoyed a casual dinner at Kalaheo Steak House as well as Pomodoro's in Kalaheo. The owner, Gerry, a former New Yorker, is a really sweet woman and the food is priced right and quite good. How many more days is it, Kal? We have to wait until mid February. Have fun.

We loved A Pacific Cafe in Kapaa and dining on the Princeville Hotel terrace at sunset.

Have a wonderful trip!

Karen, 128!
Thanks for the info. I hear a "chain" may be coming into the old Jimmy Z'z in Kapaa?

Too bad if Coconuts is closed. We preferred it over Lemon Grass but both were good.

Yep...After watching a beautiful sunset from Polihale, we can't wait for a "BOPer" with garlic butter on the crust! And such a great wait staff!

And, this time over, we will be going over with 3 other couples so Mrs Kal and I can more than one beer with The Pie since the "bruddah in law" doesn't drink!

Aloha, Coconuts is still open and a great place to have dinner! Also, Tropical Taco in Hanalei is a bargain--fresh fish tacos, veggie burritos, etc.

Ahhh! Kauai!
Each time we go, hubby makes a list of which restaurants he wants to visit. Here is the short list for last fall:
Mema - Great Thai
Kintaro - traditional Japanese- sushi & teppanyaki
Beach House - Pacific Cafe style food, awesome sunsets
Roy's - all time fav of everyone we've gone with
Pacific Cafe - absolutely wonderful - you'll forget you're in a shopping center
Brick Oven Pizza - just don't weigh on the giant scale afterward!
Hanalei Gourmet - great lunch and must- have-Whaler's-collada!
Freshest fish on the island at Whaler's brew pub out behind the Marriott.
Ma's - Downtown Lihue- traditional breakfast
Cafe de Amici - !!! excellent pasta and polenta!
Hanamalu Cafe - chinese/japanese tea room
Piatti - in the old Plantation Gardens site - awesome sashimi martini
Oh i've got to stop!!! We aren't going again until April!!
You are going to one of the true paradise places on earth...enjoy!
