Can anyone suggest a restaurant in the French Quarter for good crawfish etoufee & other local dishes?

In New Orleans, it's crawfish.

I agree that Mr. B's is wonderful. And for casual dining, try the Gumbo Shop on St. Peter.

In the south, it's crawfish! I live in Houston and nobody calls them crayfish. That's also an Aussie thing.

They're the same animal.

For crawfish in New Orleans, you're safe with anything Brennan's. For other good things to eat while you're there, Emeril's on Tchopotoulas (sp.?) is excellent. He also has two other restaurants, NOLA's and Delmonico Steakhouse.

For me, Mr.B's Bistro and 827 1/2 Toulouse, The Restaurant are both amoung the best in the French Quarter for authentic, highly flavored, Creole food. My favorite restaurant in the French Quarter is Bayona, but they are not a Creole Restaurant (they do a fabulous International Fusion Menu).

But if you really want a "Blow Your Mind" Modern Creole experience, (make a reservation and) take a short cab ride to: Upperline, Gabrielle, or Brigtsens... You will not be sorry, I promise you!

FYI: I have heard from a local chef that this season (Spring /Summer 2001)is not a particularly good one for crawfish; they are small and rather expensive. That said, by all means, give them a try! Enjoy.
