Jo,

I've never eaten at the french restaurant at epcot, but I hear it's overrated. I liked the Akershus in the Norway pavilion--it's a smorgasbord, so you can choose what appeals to you. We also love the San Angel inside the Mexico pavilion--the atmosphere is great and the food is fine. I don't think you're going to find gourmet fare anywhere there, to tell you the truth. What Disney does best is theming and atmosphere.

Other than those two, our favorites are the Sci-Fi Dine-in at MGM (though this is more a sentimental favorite), the Crystal Palace (again, a buffet) at Magic Kingdom, Captain Boatwright's at Dixie Landings, and the barbecue place in the Wilderness Lodge--Whispering Cliffs, or Whispering Canyons?

Regardless of where you stay, you can eat in the Disney hotels. That's where we've found some of our best meals.

I suggest you go to www.wdwinfo.com, where you can find discussion boards related to Disney, and specifically related to restaurants. You'll probably get more comprehensive info there. Also, wdwig.com has menus of all restaurants that you can view online.

You might want to make reservations from home wherever you go, though we almost never do.

Good ethnic food @ Disney & Epcot? Hmmm. Maybe a story will answer the question.

Some years ago, after a long wait, we were seated at Alfredo's, the so-called Italian restaurant in Epcot. Our waitress was from Italy (disney's attempt at realism) so I spoke a few words to her in Italian.

She asked if I'd been to Italy . I said yes, and told her about the food I'd had there.

So, then, every time I tried to order something, she'd say, "You had that in Italy. You're not going to like it here."

We ended up with the soup and salad.

Food at EPCOT is definitely overpriced I think. We checked prices at Canadian pavillion and simple steak and potato dinner was over $30 per person. Nothing else, everything was a la carte.Plan on spending a lot.

I like the Mexican restaurant at Epcot and I don't remember it being very expensive. I think that is funny about the Italian restaurant because I personally don't think the food in Italy is that great. I have had better Italian at good restaurants in Chicago.

We are going to be there March 6-10 and have reservations at the California Grill one night and the Rose and Crown another night. I made these based on things I have read both here and other places. I agree, bring plenty of money for food, sample menus are available on the web sites mentioned above.

I have been to California Grill twice now and had a great meal both times. We also really enjoyed the upstairs restaurant at Wolfgang Pucks. We are leaving for Disney on Sunday for a quick trip and we heard great things about Le Cellier in Epcot, although it is pricey. What isn't in Disney? I'll let you know how it is when we return if you're interested.

I agree on the California Grille. We also really LOVED the Flying Fish which is across from the Boardwalk Hotel. I would recommend making reservations there in advance. We lucked out our first try there, but couldn't get in again the rest of the week because they were booked. Of course, that was Easter week so the whole place was packed.

We were at Disney in December and ate all of our meals "on grounds". Our favorite was Boma, an African buffet at Animal Kingdom Lodge. I wouldn't suggest this if you're looking for a quiet romantic setting.

I was in Epcot last March. We enjoyed eating our way through the park, having a snack here and there. Sandwiches and rice pudding in Norway, some pastries and Kir Royale in France, my husband ate something in Germany.

We had dinner at the English place--Rose & Crown. It was excellent. I had some great bangers & mash and my husband had a pie sampler. I would definitely recommend it, although try to get reservations cuz we had to wait a long time. Not that we minded waiting in the bar with all that great English beer on tap!

Have fun!

We live in Florida and get to Epcot frequently. Both my wife and I really enjoy Les Chefs de France at the French pavillon. As others have mentioned, San Angel Inn at the Mexico pavillon is good also. I would suggest making reservations as soon as you arrive.

Another vote for the Rose and Crown in the United Kingdom. Had a great beer sampler there! Food was good and I don't remember it being overly expensive. Have fun!

Note to Carmella: If you like the "Italian" food in Chicago better than in Italy, there's a good reason. You probably have acquired a taste for Italian-American cooking.

I'd never say the food in the US is "better" than in Italy. Certainly it's different. But I would say that 9 out of 10 people who visit Italy say they love the food there. But, hey, to each his own.

It's been a while since we were there. But, I believe it's called the Coral Reef Restaurant in Epcot. Make reservations and ask for a table near the aquarium. we watched the scuba diver feeding the creatures. The aquarium is huge. The seafood is unbelievable. A little high priced. But, well worth the great food, service ,and large portions.

Favorite meal at WDW was at the Flying Fish next to the Boardwalk Hotel.
