Italian: this is not a fancy place, but La Strada, 2930 Johnson Ferry Road, has some good dishes.
Mexican: for lunch one day, drop down below 285 to Howell Mill Road. Go down to the intersection of Howell Mill and Huff Road and you'll be at Taqueria del Sol. Definitely try the fish taco! This is a good area if you like to shop for home interior items- Forsyth Fabrics is a super spot for upholstery fabric.
This will also put you in the same neighborhood as Bacchanalia. Continental American- great wine and cheeses at this spot- pricey.
Perhaps someone else can give ideas on Asian- not strong in that area.
Enjoy!

I second the La Strada recommendation. One of my and my wife's favorite restaurants.
Now if you go to the intersection of 285 and 75 and take 75 North, get off the first exit on Windy Hill Rd. and go right. On your right there is a Papasiddos and a Pappadeuxs (sorry for the spelling). Pappadeuxs is cajun and pretty crowded, Pappasiddos (mexican) is not so crowded but real good too.

I actually live ON Powers Ferry.
For Mexican, I'd have to agree that Pappasitos is very good. I think its the best in the immediate area. Of course, you can always go over to Don Pablos's, too, which is off Cumberland Blvd. (the exit below where I-75 meets 285).

Arabella, in Atlanta you can pay very high prices for so-so food. If I were you. I'd select a moderately priced place (look at Zagats) and steer clear of the pricier ones. I used to live in the area you're visiting - I do speak from experience.
Agreed. Lots of bad food in Atlanta.
I like Brasserie Le Coze , sister restaurant to Le Bernardine in NYC. It's in the Lenox mall, but I eat there anyway. Soto for sushi, also buckhead area. Great, but I hear tales of variable service (slow sometimes). Bacchanalia gets more press than any other restaurant in town. It's certainly good, but wouldn't be on anybody's list in NY or Chicago. Seegers gets good reviews, haven't made it there yet. I also like Rocky's pizza. One of the few pizzas in the south that my Yankee husband will eat.
Have fun.
