Well, lets see ... I've annoyed three or four of you ... I must be losing my touch ... by now the negative replies are normally running in the hundreds. I even see one of you wishes to "reel" me in ... I forgive you, I probably need it! Anyway, trying to keep some humor in this thing, but being serious too, I may suggest Zagats a lot, and yes, guilty as charged, but what other source would you suggest? By the way, two weeks ago I provided a somewhat realistic and yes, negative, critique about Zagats on a thread about NYC or SF, as I recall. So I am not blind to Nina and Tim's imperfections. I also suggested Access Guide ... for the simple reason that I try to "arm" folks with the most useful material available ... i.e., the very material I use constantly. These two guides organize you by food type and DC neighborhood. Nothing too illogical about that, I hope. No, I will not generally recommend a specific place in DC, for a reason: DC is not by any stretch of the imagination a great restaurant town. What we have here is good and varied, but my experience is that these places have good days and bad days. We eat out a lot and we are always trying new places, and I must tell you that we find very few that we are excited about enough to recommend people invest in for dinner. We cook better than most of the places we eat in ... and as Dizzy Dean used to say, if you can do it, it's not bragging. If you take the time to research the DC postings, you'll find some specifics from me provided to others, but I just do not care to do this all that often. I will leave that to others. So, now before I thoroughly alienate anymore of you, I will quietly tuck my tail between my legs and slink off to a week at the beach. I'll be a Sunset Beach in NC, and if you hit the beach opposite 32nd Street, and yell "Hey, Leone, how about a beer", I'll make you most welcome. And heck, you can even come for dinner ... with any luck I might be cooking. Ciao, and have a great weekend, and thanks for your patience. L

I've eaten at Etrusco (Dupont Circle) twice in the last few months after I saw a rave review in Washingtonian. It's great, especially the ribollita - -better than I've had in Florence - - and within your price range. Vidalia is my favorite DC restaurant, but it's become very pricey.
