Restaurant near Madison Square Garden??

I'm dropping my daughter and some friends at a concert at Madison Square Garden and I'd like to go out for a nice dinner with the other moms while the kids are at the concert. We're not too concerned about price and we'll eat anything. Prefer a place that will take a reservation since it will be a Saturday night and within 10 blocks so we can get back to the kids relatively quickly...don't want them hanging out waiting for us if we're a 20 minute cab ride away.

Friends have told me they really like Tre dici at 128 W. 26th, between 6th and 7th - very friendly, reliable Italian. A little bit of a walk, but could be worth it. There's also Birichino, at 260 W. 29th St. (8th Avenue) - very close to the Garden- also very reliable, tasty Italian, great homemade sausages . . . If you like steak, there's Uncle Jack's steakhouse 440 9th at 34th Street - masculine, but good food. And there's always Korean BBQ around 32nd and 6th - there's a good one, Kum Gang San at 49 W. 32nd bet. 5th and 6th.

www.sevenbarandgrill.com.
On the trendy side
on 7th between 29 & 30 Sts.

If it's inclement, you may dine right at
the Garden at Nick & Stef's, primarily
a steakhouse w/good seafood choices.

A great Chelsea neighborhood place is Le Zie 2000 at 7th Ave/20th. They serve delicious Venetian cuisine. Sadly, they do not take reservations.

I have heard great things about Le Fleur de Sel (5 E. 20th St.) from friends.

Artisanal - very nearby! wonderful and unusual place - cheeses galore, (what they are known for) but truly a memorable experience for dining in general. would be totally fun with a group of moms to taste and share.

I just had dinner at Nick and Stef's right by the Garden. I would not recommend. My French Onion Soup was good but the crab cakes were fishy and not very good. I know it's a steak restaurant, but i wasn't in the mood for steak. My boyfriend wasn't too impressed with his steak either.

Try someplace else. You can walk to other restaurants in a few minutes.

Chelsea is just south of MSG and has many, many great dining options.

Search and reserve at:

www.opentable.com

Thanks for all the great tips. We checked out all the places and we ended up making a reservation at Artisanal. There are some others I'd still love to try on a future outing to NYC.

Nick and Stef's is very good. You can make a reservation using opentable.com. Honestly, it really doesn't get that busy in there on a Saturday night. There's also a secret back entrance into Madison Square Garden from the restaurant - my husband and I use it to get into Rangers games.

Thanks again WG...We went to Artisanal last night. Even though it was jam-packed, they sat us right on time for our 8 PM reservation...food and service were great. Kids had a great time at the concert, but it didn't end until midnight and our ride home on the NJ Transit train was filled with drunken, puking teens....YUK!!
