Restaurant in Italy

Has anyone else experienced the following. A friend of mine , an American, was in Italy last week, on business. He ate in the same Hotel 2 nights in a row, and on both occasions, he was given a small 4 or 5 item menu, written in English. A nearby table, were Italians were seated, were given a large menu with plenty of dishes to choose from. He didn't say anything at the time, because he was unaware what was happening. I am guessing they assumed he wouldn't understand the menu, so they gave him the short American version. Has anyone else had this happen?

I've been to Italy several times and have not experienced that. You may, however, have better luck posting this question on the Europe board.

Maybe they had a meal plan included in the price of the hotel room its very common to have A diffrent menu also the hotel may cater to tour groups.

I'd go with italiano's explanation. That was the first thing I thought-- "I bet the dining room gave him a Meal Plan menu...."
