Renting a Van/Car?!

Hey All,

I am planning a three week road trip (likely starting in Nashville). Wondering if anyone knows if you can rent small camper vehicles? (in my mind I am thinking of a Volkswagen van...though I have no idea if that is possible. Thinking it might be cheaper to do that vs. staying in a hostel/hotel and renting a car....Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

It is rarely cheaper to rent a campervan. There are not many rental agencies and I don't recall Nashville as a place where they are rented.

You stil have to pay for a camping site, as free camping is not legal or safe. Campervans are just a theft magnet in large cities.

There is usually an additional mileage charge when you exceed a certain amount per day.

You are better off with a regular rental car and motels.

If your main concern is cost...once you factor in the fuel and the insurances (credit card coverage covers regular cars but not camper vans)...it is much less expensive to rent a car for 3 weeks and stay at Baymont Inns, Jameson Inns, Motel 6's and EconoLodges.
